On the 29th August 2014 at West Melton school was the opening of the War Memorial. The deputy chief of Army came to open the War Memorial. At the start Mackenzie H played the Last post on his trumpet.

Brigadier Phil McKee

ON FRIDAY THE 29TH OF AUGUST 2014 PHIL MCKEE CAME IN AND OPENED OUR SCHOOLS WAR MEMORIAL. PHIL WORKS IN WELLINGTON ON THE WEEKDAYS AND COMES TO CHRISTCHURCH IN THE WEEKDAYS. HE TALKED ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO LEFT WEST MELTON AND DIDN’T COME BACK HOME. THEN MACKENZIE PLAYED THE LAST POST. THIS WAS USED WHEN THEY WENT TO BED, AND TO WAKE THE SOLDIERS UP. WE NOW USE IT AS A REMEMBRANCE TO THE SOLDIERS THAT DIED IN THE WAR. WE THEN TOOK THE FLAG OFF THE STATUE  AND THEN HE TALKED ABOUT HOW THE STATUE WAS IMPORTANT TO  THE COMMUNITY. WE THEN RAISED THE FLAG AND MACKENZIE PLAYED THE TRUMPET AND WE WRAPPED UP THE CEREMONY.  THIS WAS A GOOD THING TO LEARN ABOUT, THANKS FOR COMING DAD.

Brigadier Phil McKee was born and educated in Christchurch, New Zealand. He graduated from the Officer Cadet School, New Zealand into the Royal New Zealand Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers as a Second Lieutenant in 1988 and following graduation he completed his young officer regimental training. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in June 1990.
In 1992 Brigadier McKee was promoted to Captain and held technical, instructor and command appointments. During this time he also completed an exchange posting with the Combat Services Support Battalion, 24th Airmobile Brigade
in the United Kingdom.
Brigadier McKee is married to Chantal and they have two daughters, Toni and Jessie.  Brigadier McKee enjoys a number of sports, particularly rugby union and golf. Chantal is a school teacher and a keen sportsman.

PJ day

PJ DAY
Pj day  was a  jarmie day where the amazing West Melton school had to get dressed in pjs I came to school in my dressing gown  and everyone called me dragon dog  and  Jamie wore a plain dark blue onesie.
